Serena Williams will finish the year as world number No1. The news was confirmed by the press service of the WTA. The American will finish the season as No1 for the fifth time in her career after 2002, 2009, 2013 and 2014.
Serena Williams will become the fourth tennis player, after the introduction of ranking, which will finish the year as No1 in five or more seasons. The remaining 3 with such achievement are Steffi Graf (eight times), Martina Navratilova (7 times) and Chris Evert (5 times).
Currently Williams is spending her week No257 as a leader in the world rankings.
